This is the account of the last days of Jesus' life, and it’s taken from many Scriptures in the four Gospels. It tells the story with a more continuous flow than those in the individual Gospels, yet it is totally from the Scriptures. Here are seven names or places that start with the letter "g” that were prominent at the close of the first advent of Jesus. They are these words;
Gethsemane, Gabbatha, Gentiles, Golgotha, garden, Galilee, and glory.
The words "glory"and "Gentile" will again be prominent at the end of this present dispensation of grace when Christ returns to establish His earthly Kingdom.
In aeronautical terms, a "G” is the equivalent of the down force of gravity. In our earth’s atmosphere, gravity is one force we can’t dispute, change, or overcome. It’s all powerful. Our Lord fulfilled His mission here on earth with more power and force than seven "G’s” of gravity when He went to the cross and defeated Satan for us and bought our salvation.
I’m going to quote these scriptures as nearly as possible in the order that they tell of Jesus and the events leading up to His death, burial, resurrection, ascension, and His soon return.
Let’s start with Mark chapter 10:32-34, where Jesus and His disciples start their journey "up to Jerusalem" where He will be crucified by the Gentiles.
"And they were in the way going up to Jerusalem; and Jesus went before them: and they were amazed; and as they followed, they were afraid. And he took again the twelve, and began to tell them what things should happen unto him, Saying, Behold, we go up to Jerusalem; and the Son of man shall be delivered unto the chief priests, and unto the scribes; and they shall condemn him to death, and shall deliver him to the Gentiles: And they shall mock him, and shall scourge him, and shall spit upon him, and shall kill him: and the third day he shall rise again." Mark 10:32-34
Luke 22:7-8. "Then came the day of unleavened bread, when the Passover must be killed. And he sent Peter and John, saying, Go and prepare us the Passover, that we may eat."
Luke 22:13-21. "And they went, and found as he had said unto them: and they made ready the Passover. And when the hour was come, he sat down, and the twelve apostles with him. And he said unto them, With desire I have desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer: For I say unto you, I will not any more eat thereof, until it be fulfilled in the kingdom of God. And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and said, Take this, and divide it among yourselves: For I say unto you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine, until the kingdom of God shall come. And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me. Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you. But, behold, the hand of him that betrayeth me is with me on the table."
Matthew 26:30. "And when they had sung an hymn, they went out into the Mount of Olives." [The garden of Gethsemane is located on the mount of Olives.]
Gethsemane
Matthew 26:36-39 "Then cometh Jesus with them unto a place caned Gethsemane,
and saith unto the disciples, Sit ye here, while I go and pray yonder. And he took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, (James and John) and began to be sorrowful and very heavy. Then saith he unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death: tarry ye here, and watch with me. And he went a little further, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, 0 my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt ."
Mark 14:42-45. "Rise up, let us go; lo, he that betrayeth me is at hand. And immediately, while he yet spake, cometh Judas, one of the twelve, and with him a great multitude with swords and staves, from the chief priests and the scribes and the elders. And he that betrayed him had given them a token, saying, Whomsoever I shall kiss, that same is he; take him, and lead him away safely. And as soon as he was come, he goeth straightway to him, and saith, Master, master; and kissed him."
John 18: 12-14: "Then the band and the captain and officers of the Jews took Jesus, and bound him, And led him away to Annas first; for he was father-in-law to Caiaphas, which was the high priest that same year. Now Caiaphas was he, which gave counsel to the Jews, that it was expedient that one man should die for the people."
John 18:28-34: "Then led they Jesus from Caiaphas unto the hall of judgment: and it was early; and they themselves went not into the judgment hall, lest they should be defiled; but that they might eat the Passover. Pilate then went out unto them, and said, What accusation bring ye against this man? They answered and said unto him, If he were not a malefactor, we would not have delivered him up unto thee. Then said Pilate unto them, Take ye him, and judge him according to your law. That the saying of Jesus might be fulfilled, which he spake, signifying what death he should die. Then Pilate entered into the judgment hall again, and called Jesus, and said unto him, Art thou the King of the Jews? Jesus answered him, Sayest thou this thing of thyself, or did others tell it thee of me?"
John 19: 12 "And from thenceforth Pilate sought to release him: but the Jews cried out, saying, If thou let this man go, thou art not Caesar's friend: whosoever maketh himself a king speaketh against Caesar. "
Gabbatha
John 19: 13-17. "When Pilate therefore heard that saying, he brought Jesus forth, and sat down in the judgment seat in a place that is called the Pavement, but in the Hebrew, Gabbatha. And it was the preparation of the Passover, and about the sixth hour: and he saith unto the Jews, Behold your King! But they cried out, Away with him, away with him, crucify him. Pilate saith unto them, Shall I crucify your King?
The chief priests answered, We have no king but Caesar.
Then delivered he him therefore unto them to be crucified. And they took Jesus, and led him away. And he, bearing his cross, went forth into a place called the place of a skull, which is called in the Hebrew Golgotha:"
Golgotha
Matthew 27:33-37. "And when they were come unto a place called Golgotha, that is to say, a place of a skull, They gave him vinegar to drink mingled with gall: and when he had tasted thereof, he would not drink. And they crucified him, and parted his garments, casting lots: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, They parted my garments among them, and upon my vesture did they cast lots. And sitting down they watched him there; And set up over his head his accusation written, "THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS."
Luke 23:46-47. "And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit: and having said thus, he gave up the ghost. Now when the centurion saw what was done, he glorified God, saying, Certainly this was a righteous man."
John 19:31-38. "The Jews therefore, because it was the preparation, that the bodies should not remain upon the cross on the sabbath day, (for that sabbath day was an high day,) besought Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away. Then came the soldiers, and brake the legs of the first, and of the other which was crucified with him. But when they came to Jesus and saw that he was dead already, they brake not his legs: But one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith came there out blood and water. And he that saw it bare record, and his record is true: and he knoweth that he saith true, that ye might believe.
For these things were done, that the scripture should be fulfilled, A bone of him shall not be broken. And again another scripture saith, They shall look on him whom they pierced. And after this, Joseph of Arimathaea, being a disciple of Jesus, but secretly for fear of the Jews, besought Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus: and Pilate gave him leave. He came therefore, and took the body of Jesus."
A Garden
John 19:41-42a. "Now in the place where he was crucified there was a garden; and in the garden a new sepulchre, wherein was never man yet laid. There laid they Jesus."
Now we come to a dispensational transition. The last verse of Luke 23 states that they rested the Sabbath. Luke 23:56. “And they returned, and prepared spices and ointments; and rested the sabbath day according to the commandment.” This was proper as they were still under the Law. Starting with verse 1 of Luke 24, we find the resurrection of the Lord is recorded and this opens the "dispensation of grace" that continues yet today.
Luke 24:1-3. "Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them. And they found the stone rolled away from the sepulchre. And they entered in, and found not the body of the Lord Jesus."
Luke 24:4-7. “And it came to pass, as they were much perplexed thereabout, behold, two men stood by them in shining garments: And as they were afraid, and bowed down their faces to the earth, they said unto them, Why seek ye the living among the dead? He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee, Saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.”
Galilee
Matthew 28:7. “And go quickly, and tell his disciples that he is risen from the dead; and, behold, he goeth before you into Galilee; there shall ye see him: lo, I have told you..”
Matthew 28:8-10. “And they departed quickly from the sepulchre with fear and great joy; and did run to bring his disciples word. And as they went to tell his disciples, behold, Jesus met them, saying, All hail. And they came and held him by the feet, and worshipped him. Then said Jesus unto them, Be not afraid: go tell my brethren that they go into Galilee, and there shall they see me.”
Matthew 28:16-18. “Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, into a mountain where Jesus had appointed them. And when they saw him, they worshipped him: but some doubted. And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.”
Acts 1:8. “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.”
Glory [His return to glory]
Acts 1:9-12a. "And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight. And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel; Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven. Then returned they unto Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet."
Christ Will Return From Glory to Meet the Believer in The Air!
1 Thessalonians 4:13-18. "But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.
For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.
For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not precede them which are asleep. For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore comfort one another with these words."
Christ Will Come To Earth Again With Power and Glory
Matthew 24:29-30. "Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken: And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the land mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory."
Jesus suffered indignity, shame, excruciating pain, and even the death of a criminal for our sins. He had no sin of His own, but He gladly suffered this for your sins and mine.
God requires a blood sacrifice for sin and Jesus was the only One who could provide that sinless sacrifice. He made us acceptable to God through His sacrifice for us. God's only requirement of us is faith in the finished work of His Son.
God's New Commandment
1 John 3:23. "And this is His commandment, That we should believe on the Name of His Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as He gave us commandment. "
Believe on the Name of God's Son,
and you're saved by the blood God's Son shed at Golgotha.
Our eternity with Christ is assured through simple faith in His forgiveness.
God has asked us to confess that we're sinners and can't save ourselves.
He will grant us an eternal pardon from our sins when we honestly ask Him
to accept our admission of guilt.
We will undoubtedly sin as long as we're on this earth, even after turning our soul over to Him, but the shed blood of Jesus paid for our past, present, and future sins. God wants to forgive us and wants us to accept Christ as our Redeemer. He even counts it a privilege to do this for us and it's for all eternity. Where else can you get such a tremendous return for so little on our part?
